Downtown Pocomoke City at the Top of the 20th Century

This old postcard, mailed Dec. 8, 1908, shows the prosperous business district in Pocomoke City, MD, the decade before automobiles became common place in this Eastern Shore town.  Not one horseless carriage was in view when the photographer grabbed this image.  But two decades later (1928) when another photograph captured roughly the same street vista, the parking spaces are full of cars.
